Cultural diversity in workplace by Asif Sadiq

This is an Asif Sadiq YouTube video about inclusion, diversity, and equity—and how to do it well, during a TEDx gathering. Presenting a lecture at the Royal Russell School Croydon Sadiq is an accomplished diversity and inclusion specialist with a long history, having held senior executive roles at adidas. He focused a lot of attention on the idea that teaching cultural diversity in the workplace the old-fashioned approach is no longer effective. He made reference to the fact that while nations and companies are spending a great deal of money on training employees about cultural diversity in the workplace, they are failing to archive the outcomes, achievements, or desired changes.  He claimed that because the training was and is still based on prejudice and stereotypes, there hasn't been any progress. It is predicated. It's not always inclusive or diverse, and it frequently works in the exact opposite way. he said "We need to take a comprehensive approach to education if we are to fully comprehend why diversity training is ineffective and what we can do to actually bring about change. How do we acquire knowledge? How can we really integrate change? He also stressed that applying the culture and system of a certain nation universally would not produce the desired outcome".

He gave the following example: Did you learn about the colonizer or the colonized? We studied the British Empire. He claimed that this illustrated the importance of providing comprehensive knowledge on both the colonizer and the colonized. He went on to say that there is a misconception that everyone learns in the same way. Since no two people can learn in the same way, businesses need to use teaching methods that will make their staff members realize the significance of the material being presented to them.

Lastly, he said, "What perspectives do we give when we think about diversity training?" By that, what do I mean? We present viewpoints from the dominant culture. The belief is that the diverse components we emphasize will be effective in any nation on the planet, hence many trainings conducted worldwide are either US or British in origin. Every country has a different definition of diversity, as well as various ideas about what constitutes a diverse society.

This is especially fascinating to me since it clarifies how important it is for team members to respect each other's cultural differences in order to interact with them simply by having the appropriate knowledge, skills, and tools.
